Today is election day and all residents are urged to go and vote at the polling stations, set up as usual in St Charles' School, St Peter & St Paul's Church and Rishton Free Gardeners' Club. Stations open at 7.00am and close at 10.00pm this evening.
Rishton First tries for the most part to be as non-political as possible but there have been certain items of Conservative literature and promises made on the doorstep by representatives of Stan Horne which are not true, particularly with reference to increased taxes and the introduction of car parking charges, neither of which would happen under a Labour council. Other literature proudly proclaims that Rishton has been Conservative for 11 years, but promises made in previous campaigns that the Spring Street derelicts would be demolished and extra CCTV would be installed have not been honoured.
The Rishton Labour team have not made any promises just to get your vote, we simply want to work hard to make the village a better place in whatever way we can. We would rather be honest and realistic rather than make wild claims of what Clare Cleary would do for you if elected. Listening to residents when they have a problem, reporting faults, helping people solve small issues in day-to-day life and keeping the public informed of what the councillors are working on are things which we do every single day and want to continue doing. Ask yourself when you last heard from your Conservative candidate and how much money has been spent in Rishton since 1999 compared with Oswaldtwistle. Councillors are not here to simply hand out cheques every four years when elections draw near, we are here to listen to you and put things right from the word go.
Harry Grayson and Ken Moss have been a stronger voice for Rishton working as a partnership, please help us to make that a team in the council chamber by voting for Clare Cleary today.
