Clare Cleary has become the third village councillor, beating Stan Horne by 111 votes. The election count took place at the Hyndburn Leisure Centre and was delayed by several hours because the AV referendum votes had to be separated for counting on 6th May at 4.00pm. Clare was announced as winner shortly before 1.45am on 6th May and Labour now have outright control of Hyndburn Council with 18 seats out of 35. The Conservatives hold 14 seats with the Independents retaining 3 seats.
County Councillor for Rishton Miles Parkinson now becomes the new Leader of Hyndburn Council, replacing Peter Britcliffe. The Rishton Labour team would like to thank all those who voted for Clare as we now have an extremely strong trio of councillors to stand up for the village and look forward to the many months of work that lie ahead in trying to improve both Rishton and the borough.

A breathe of fresh air
ReplyDeleteThanks Janis, we think so too. The days of reckless spending in Oswaldtwistle and then blaming the previous government are over, time to look at the whole borough and not just one or two safe Conservative wards. Rishton will always come first for Harry, Clare and myself and we want every resident to feel as though they can come to any of us when there is a problem. We're here to help you.
