RISHTON LOCAL ELECTION - 5th MAY 2011

The Rishton local election will take place on Thursday May 5th to decide who becomes the third village councillor alongside Harry Grayson and Ken Moss. The election has little to do with national politics or who gets control of the country, it is purely to decide who looks after Rishton’s interests. Each councillor is voted in for a four-year term, Harry Grayson having won his second term in 2008 with Ken Moss winning in 2010.  Clare Cleary asked to stand as the Labour candidate this year as she wants to win the election and stand alongside them in the council chamber as a third strong voice for Rishton.

Currently, Rishton has three councillors who are part of the 35 representatives on Hyndburn Council, which been Conservative-run for 10 of the 11 years since 1999. Hundreds of thousands of pounds of our taxes have been spent by the Council Leader in the Oswaldtwistle area whilst Rishton's own past Conservative councillors said nothing in protest and Cllr Grayson's minority voice has gone unheeded. In order for things to change, control of the council needs to shift from Conservative to Labour and the May elections are the only opportunity for residents to do that.

Conservative leaflets have recently been distributed around Rishton which state that Labour will increase council taxes and impose car parking charges, neither of which are true.  All councils currently recieve a government grant if they keep taxes at a 0% increase, it is simply not in Hyndburn's best interest for any party to raise council tax at the moment.

Clare Cleary has the backing of Cllrs Harry Grayson, Ken Moss, County Cllr Miles Parkinson and Graham Jones MP. A Conservative vote in Rishton is simply another vote for your tax money to be spent in Oswaldtwistle, please help us to help you by voting for Clare this Thursday.
