RISHTON FESTIVAL 2012 OVERVIEW

Rishton Festival 2012 is being hailed as the best yet following a very well-attended event on a beautiful summer's day (against all odds). Council Leader Miles Parkinson, Graham Jones MP, Cllr Clare Cleary and Cllr Ken Moss were all in attendance (pictured above with event organiser Christine Hammerton) and took part in various activities to lend a hand.

Colin Cooper brought his Olympic torch from the recent procession through Accrington and led the parade through the streets of Rishton to Norden High School, where he posed for photos with residents in return for donations to Water Aid and the East Lancashire Hospice. The hospice were also selling raffle tickets to win a Mini Coupe, whilst the Royal British Legion held a ballon race and a 'Name the Dog' competition.

President of the Rotary Club of Rishton and Great Harwood, Les Hardy, officially opened the Festival and Deputy Mayor Judith Addison gave her best wishes to the crowd. Other groups and events throughout the day included folk singer Nick from Rishton Library, the Rishton Horticultural Society, local dance school Starstruck, the Knit and Natter group and Rishton Utd Football Club.
