COMMUNITY FOOTBALL CLUB OF THE YEAR

Rishton United Football Club has been awarded the prestigious 2012 FA Community Charter Standard Club, from Lancashire Football Association. Rishton United was formed in the 1970s but has more recently grown from 10 to 24 teams, covering all junior age groups, girls, ladies and senior mens football.

Rishton United acquired the FA Community Club Charter Standard in 2011 and are in discussions to acquire, build and develop playing, changing and training facilities within Rishton, as part of a community wide project.

The Lancashire FA were impressed with Rishton United’s five year development plan, which not only includes plans for developing playing / training facilities in Rishton, but also included plans to further develop coaching within both the club, community and in local schools, from its well known “Nippers” class for Under 6 age group, through to developing coaches, goalkeeper training and referee coaching.

For the last 3 years, the club has had to play and train at local schools and council owned pitches. Many of our 20+ teams have had to train or play outside of the Rishton and Hyndburn area due to the lack of playing / training facilities available in Rishton. From September 2012, Rishton United will finally get to train once again in Rishton, following extensive work undertaken to upgrade the Astroturf facility at Norden Primetime.

The second stage of the clubs development plan is to develop the pitch facilities, also at Primetime, develop the site to provide parking, changing, training and storage facilities within the Primetime site based in Rishton. The cost of this will be in excess of £1,000,000, but the recent county wide award granted by the Lancashire Football Association is further recognition of the steps the club is making both on and off the field and help in the club’s efforts to acquire and secure funding to achieve this.

Rishton United will be presented the award officially in August by the Lancashire Football Association.
