RISHTON RECALLED: ACCRINGTON PALS

A new plaque has been installed at Conservative Club on Cliff Street to commemorate the centenary of the Accrington Pals.  This is one of a series of historical plaques due to be erected around Rishton to remember its past.

The Rishton sign up took place at the club in 1914 and is now proudly remembered with a new resin plaque depicting the soldiers. The number of men signing up was proportionally much larger than neighbouring Great Harwood which has led some to believe that this is how the town got its nickname, 'Snuffy Harrod'.
