A booklet produced by the old Urban District Council as a guide to Rishton has been found and donated to Cllr Ken Moss. The pamphlet is 32 pages long and was found by resident Melanie Trengove whilst she was sorting through her grandparents' possessions.
Cllr Moss said, "This is a wonderful fragment of village history and shows how much things have changed over half a century. None of the businesses listed within seem to exist anymore and the map has large areas which have since been used to build more houses. I would imagine that the booklet was quite a widely-issued piece of literature but I have never seen or heard of it previously. This edition would appear to have been printed around 1952 because of a reference on page 21 regarding rateable value. I'm sure it will create lively discussion on the Rishton First discussion forum in any case!"
Ken has scanned the booklet at high resolution for others to enjoy and this will be posted on the Rishton First and Rishton Website Facebook pages.
