Rishton County Councillor Miles Parkinson has been working to improve the bus stop service at Eachill Gardens and public consultation has raised concerns regarding a loss of parking amenities. New proposals have been drawn up as a result and an informal consultation letter was recently sent to residents of Eachill Gardens:
Lancashire County Council contacted residents in June regarding the proposal to restrict waiting and loading on a section of the highway opposite no 27 Eachill Gardens. The proposed markings would be provided with a view to improving the turning area for buses servicing the existing bus stop on Eachill Gardens. The restrictions would aid the manoeuvring of large vehicles and reduce the potential for collisions with parked vehicles.
Objections were received during the informal consultation due to the reduction in parking spaces, and the removal of parking in this area in particular. In order to address these concerns the proposals have now been amended to include the provision of two disabled parking bays immediately south of the proposed restrictions to waiting and loading. Lancashire County Council is seeking your views on the amended proposals to restrict waiting and loading on a section of the highway opposite no 27 Eachill Gardens, and additionally the provision of two disabled parking bays to the south of the proposed restrictions.
The proposed markings would be provided with a view to improving the turning area for buses servicing the existing bus stop on Eachill Gardens. The restrictions would aid the manoeuvring of large vehicles and reduce the potential for collisions with parked vehicles. The provision of the two disabled parking bays would ensure that there is sufficient designated parking for mobility impaired motorists in the area.
The proposal would prevent vehicles stopping, parking, or loading on the section of public highway Monday to Saturday from 8am to 6pm. The restrictions would not affect evening or Sunday parking. The proposed disabled parking bays would have no time restriction and as such would ensure that there is adequate designated parking provisions in place for mobility impaired motorists.
The closing date for responses was 16th October and at the moment the consultation is informal. The decision for a formal consultation will be taken dependent on the responses received on the revised proposal.
