20MPH SCHOOL SPEED LIMIT PROPOSED

Lancashire County Council is considering an advisory 20mph speed limit outside St Peter and Paul's C of E Primary School, the effect of which will be to introduce a part-time 20mph speed limit which will advise the public to drive at that speed during key school times.

The part-time 20mph speed limit would only be operational when warning lights show.

The proposed speed limit would extend on the B6535 Harwood Road, from the centre line of its junction with Norfolk Street, in a north westerly direction for a distance of 194 metres.

An advisory speed limit sets out the recommended speed limit but it is not enforceable. The advisory 20mph speed limit will be in operation at school opening and closing times during term times only.

  1. Not enforceable, but any idiots causing an incident by ignoring it should feel the full force of the law (such as it is)

  2. Also please remember that children in cars are influenced by their parents' behaviour whilst driving. Any bad driving by parents will be instilled into their offspring, who will think it's OK to drive like that because mum / dad does it all the time. When they're old enough to drive themselves, no matter how much driving instructors try to instil good driving behaviour into them, it's very difficult to undo 17 years of bad examples. That's a big reason why young drivers figure so heavily in the "accident" statistics once they have passed the driving test, and revert to mum / dad's way of driving.
