Rishton Councillor, Clare Cleary, asked about the possibility of funding for alley gates in and around the Spring Street and Danvers Street area to tackle an increasing antisocial behaviour and drugs problem. Mr Grunshaw replied by stating that although alley gates were a matter for local Council authorities he would point Cllr Cleary in the right direction for applying to community grant funds for such a scheme in Rishton.
Fellow ward Councillor, Ken Moss, asked about the persistent problem of scrap metal thefts and requested that greater emphasis is placed on tracking down the organisers of large gangs of scrap metal thieves which are operating in the area. Mr Grunshaw replied that with the work that MP Graham Jones has already done in Parliament regarding this issue Hyndburn is better placed than most authorities to deal with metal theft and that new laws that are due to come into force regarding payments for scrap will aid the police in the coming months.
