Rishton celebrated the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II in style with parties all over the village and many houses decked out with union flags and bunting. Over 40 members of The People's Centre held a special party, with Shirley Blundell once again playing the piano for a Great British singalong.
Residents on Parker Street organised a street party and the road was shut off for the event. The party kicked off at 1.00pm and then moved into the Free Gardeners Club at 6.00pm for the remainder of the evening. All the pubs and clubs had Jubilee-themed activities and these look set to continue well into the Bank Holidays on Monday and Tuesday.
Thanks are due to Catherine Smith and Andrew Campbell at the Co-op on High Street for providing over £30 worth of free party food and this was distributed around the village on Saturday afternoon.
