POLICE NON-EMERGENCY NUMBER - 101

A new non-emergency number was introduced in December 2011 to contact local constabularies - 101.

This number will automatically direct callers to the nearest local police force contact centre for help with non-emergencies and calls cost no more than 15p from either landlines or mobiles. The number was created after a survey found that just over half of people in Great Britain knew how to contact their local police. It is not replacing 999 but the public are urged to use 101 to report crimes that have already happened or other incidents of concern that do not require an emergency response.
