The first public meeting of the Rishton Council in nearly 12 months will take place at the Free Gardeners Club on Parker Street on Thursday 8th March. Cllr Harry Grayson will chair the meeting which will focus largely on developments within the village over the past year.
The length of time between meetings has been unusually long due to restructuring of the Area Councils by the new Labour controlling group. Various elements and administrative costs have been eliminated by councillors undertaking some of the work and organisation and this has saved approximately a quarter of a million pounds each year. Rishton Council has seen a budget increase of £7,000 this year and money which is left unspent by the end of the financial year can now be rolled over instead of being clawed back and lost as it was under the previous administration.
County Cllr Miles Parkinson (who is also Leader of Hyndburn Borough Council) will be in attendance to update residents on Lancashire County Council matters and it is hoped that Graham Jones MP will be able to give a short presentation on his activities in Westminster.
All residents are welcome and the meeting starts at 7.00pm. An agenda can be found here:
