SPRING STREET DERELICTS DEMOLITION

After years of campaigning from Cllr Harry Grayson, along with further calls from Cllrs Ken Moss and Clare Cleary, the row of derelict houses at the bottom of Spring Street are finally being demolished. The houses have been largely empty for around ten years and have fallen into severe disrepair yet despite being an election issue for several years there has been no improvement to this area.

Following the change of Hyndburn Borough Council control to Labour at the local elections in May 2011, this issue was treated as a priority item for Rishton and legal issues were resolved within two months. The cost of the demolition is being divided up equally between the home owners so that there is no cost to the council. Demolition work began on 19th September and is scheduled to be completed within eight weeks.
