The aims of the project are to reduce congestion on the road network, reduce bus journey times and improve the reliability of bus services, improve public transport provision to key strategic employment sites and support the regeneration of Pennine Lancashire's towns.
Through a mix of physical engineering, new technology, high quality buses and improved routes, timetables and ticket choices, the scheme is designed to make public transport more attractive and a real alternative to the private car. Principally, the Pennine Reach scheme will deliver benefits for public transport and its users but there will also be benefits for pedestrians, cyclists and general traffic.
However, Pennine Reach is more than just a transport scheme. It will help to improve the quality of life for the people of Hyndburn by making it easier for people to travel to employment sites, educational establishments, health services, leisure facilities, shopping areas, town centres and much more.
The scheme is intended to support the future regeneration of Pennine Lancashire by opening up areas of land for redevelopment and investment and providing greater accessibility to key employment sites.
