A story has been printed in today's Lancashire Telegraph regarding forthcoming A-frames which are set to be installed in two locations to deter horse riders:
Kissing gates come in after Rishton residents complain
The article has already sparked a lengthy complaint to Cllr Moss but other responses have been positive and the news has been welcomed following a series of incidents, particularly on Shawbrook Close which will be the location of the first A-frame. Recently, a very young rider was thrown from her horse which kicked her and then ran off through a residential area causing damage to gardens and driveways. The footpath between Shawbrook Close and St Albans Road is not a bridleway and has been damaged by hooves plus is becoming unusable by pedestrians due to fouling.
The second frame is awaiting funding and set to be constructed at the Rishton end of the White Path, something which is hoped will deter motorbike riders as well. A bridleway has recently been cleared by Hyndburn Borough Council (seen above on the right of the picture, complete with marker post) so that facilities exist for horse riders to travel to Great Harwood. This was constructed some years ago at the request of riders who preferred a soft path to a hard one.
Horse riders have also churned up sections of the Spring Street playing fields used by Rishton Utd Football Club which is making the football pitches dangerous for the players.
