Following comments at the Rishton Area Council meeting on 15th March, Cllrs Ken Moss and Harry Grayson sent a letter to the Leader of Hyndburn Borough Council, Peter Britcliffe, requesting that local community groups should be consulted regarding spending of the £250,000 publicly allocated to the village. The letter was copied to Rishton community groups and some informal discussions have been held with councillors to gauge broader opinion. It is generally felt that spending such a large amount of money should not be entirely within the remit of any one person and that there should be greater involvement with the residents if the funds are eventually given to Rishton.
The £250,000 was originally part of a larger transitional sum which had been expected by many to go towards housing regeneration in Woodnook, an area of Hyndburn which has become severely run down, but in February 2011 an announcement was made by the controlling group that the money would be divided between certain wards.
As yet, no response has been received from the Leader of the Council.
