The roads across Lancashire have had their problems made worse following a particularly harsh winter and bad surfaces have now started deteriorating at an accelerated rate. County Councillor Miles Parkinson (whose remit primarily involves Rishton) has been working with the Highways department to identify roads which are in urgent need of attention within the village. The following works have been flagged up in a report, some of which have already been completed:
- Blackburn Old Road - surface dressing up to New Inn
- St Albans Road - repairs to the footway
- Walmsley Street - contruction of 2 new manholes by the church
£63k has been allocated to repairing potholes across Hyndburn and several in Rishton have already been reported by Cllr Ken Moss and Harry Grayson. A request has also been made to have Parker Street made into a 20mph zone following frequent complaints from residents and although a rolling scheme is in place across Lancashire none have been designated this year.
The cycle path between Rishton and Great Harwood was also allocated £105k and construction which began in February 2010 is almost complete.
