RISHTON CANVASSING - 1st MAY 2010

The MUGA (Multi-User Games Area) on Holt Street recreation ground is now built and in use by families and youths.  The enclosed area comprises of a football pitch with goals, cricket stumps and two basketball hoops.  It is due to the efforts of people such as Christine Hammerton, Cllr Harry Grayson and the children in the immediate area that the project has come to fruition.  Funding has been raised entirely by the youth groups and is an excellent example of a successful community project.

A small sheltered seating area has also been constructed with plans for changing rooms to be added in the near future.  The football pitch is due to be drained with a running track and nature trail built around the perimeter.

Ken Moss and Harry Grayson have been out in the village for the final run up to the elections on May 6th and several more issues are now in the process of being addressed:
  • James Street - post box removed in January
  • Lord Street - fly-tipping of paint tins and plyboard in back alleyway
  • Grasmere Close - oak tree causing problems with leaves in autumn
  • Cliff Street - allotments being vandalised, hens killed by youths and arson attacks on garages

The Prospects group have also got together as a working party to clear the overgrown grass verge in central Rishton.  The photograph below clearly shows the outline of how far over the path the grass had grown and this was trimmed back by members of the team in their own time.
