OLYMPIC TORCH IN ACCRINGTON

The Olympic Torch comes to Accrington on Saturday 23rd June and Rishton's Colin Cooper will be carrying the flame for a section of the way:

'I have now received details of which leg I have been allocated for the Torch Relay through Accrington on Saturday 23rd June. I shall be starting at the junction of Abbey St and Eastgate and ‘run’ along Eastgate to the junction with Stanley St. (In general all torchbearers ‘run’ about 300 metres). The Accrington leg of the Relay starts in Ossy at 10.19 and progresses all along Blackburn Rd, past the Town Hall, up little Blackburn Rd, tuning right into Abbey St, then doubling back along Eastgate to go up Burnley Rd, finishing at the junction with Penny House Lane. From there it will be transported to the outskirts of Burnley to start the process all over again.'

Councillors Clare Cleary and Ken Moss will be there to cheer Colin on his way and Rishton residents are invited to do the same.
