Despite having widely advertised the meeting at Rishton Area Council, on noticeboards, the Lancashire Telegraph and a leaflet drop to the homes that would be affected by a bus shelter, only 11 residents turned up to vote and a unanimous decision was taken to abandon plans for the foreseeable future. Positioning of the bus shelter was the primary concern but issues were raised regarding potential anti-social behaviour, devaluation of properties immediately behind and the practicality of a cantilever shelter in bad weather. The three councillors all agreed to return the sum of £3,730 to the Rishton Council funding pot for other projects.
Other issues were raised at the meeting and will now be reported to Hyndburn Borough Council:
- Butler Street - overgrown foliage at substation
- Talbot Street - litter bin being used for dog waste
- Holt Street - flags being stolen on unadopted road
