HERMITAGE STREET BUS SHELTERS

Cllrs Harry Grayson, Ken Moss and Stan Horne held a public meeting on Saturday 27th November at Rishton Free Gardeners Club to discuss the positioning of a potential new bus shelter on Hermitage Street. Clare Cleary (Rishton Labour candidate for 2011) was on hand as ever to take minutes of the meeting.

Despite having widely advertised the meeting at Rishton Area Council, on noticeboards, the Lancashire Telegraph and a leaflet drop to the homes that would be affected by a bus shelter, only 11 residents turned up to vote and a unanimous decision was taken to abandon plans for the foreseeable future.  Positioning of the bus shelter was the primary concern but issues were raised regarding potential anti-social behaviour, devaluation of properties immediately behind and the practicality of a cantilever shelter in bad weather.  The three councillors all agreed to return the sum of £3,730 to the Rishton Council funding pot for other projects.

Other issues were raised at the meeting and will now be reported to Hyndburn Borough Council:
  • Butler Street - overgrown foliage at substation
  • Talbot Street - litter bin being used for dog waste
  • Holt Street - flags being stolen on unadopted road
