Cllrs Harry Grayson and Ken Moss undertook a walk around the village on Saturday 2nd October and several things have now been reported to Hyndburn Borough Council for attention:
- Hermitage Street - unsightly frontage at no 95
- Talbot Street - gas meter open to the elements
- Fielding Street - unsightly frontage at no 20
- Barnmeadow Crescent - pavements in need of repair
- High Street - dumped television set on canal bridge
- Commercial Street - kerbstones in need of re-laying
Other items of note are repairs to a vandalised lamp post on Spring Street and several minor repairs to potholes along Spring Street and Bridge Street. Many more have been outlined by the Highways department for future repair and these will be done in order of priority across Lancashire.
Finally, the councillors would urge all residents to be on the lookout for scrap salvagers, two of whom were caught rummaging around at the sheds on Holt Street at 9.30am on Saturday morning. If any resident is concerned by suspicious activity then please report it to the police immediately, giving a reasonable description of the van and registration number. There have been many incidents of metal and lead theft across Rishton in the past 12 months which needs the community to work together to try and prevent in future. Great Harwood police can be contacted on 01254 353334 or alternatively phone Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
