LANCASHIRE TELEGRAPH - 27th OCTOBER 2010

A letter has been printed in the Lancashire Telegraph from Cllr Ken Moss objecting to proposals for an elected Mayor for Hyndburn.  Such a Mayor would be a costly move for the borough and give an individual far more power than the current Leader of the Council, plus they would not be able to be removed from office even with a vote from full council.  Current council leader Peter Britcliffe has nominated himself for the position should the system of an elected Mayor be adopted and it is widely suspected that the new mayoral annual salary would at least equal his current Hyndburn allowance of over £20,000.  The letter can be viewed here:
