PIGGY PARK COMMUNITY GARDEN ASSOCIATION

The final documents for the formation of the new Piggy Park Community Garden have been drawn up and a planning application for a new fence around the site has been submitted to Hyndburn Borough Council.

Secretary of the group, Jeff Scales, said, "We are now a fully-constituted group and have an agreement with the Prospects Foundation so that we are fully covered for insurance. Many thanks are due to the chairman, Phil Barwood, for making this offer to us as it has saved a lot of headaches. We have a peppercorn rent with HBC and the group will be self-sustaining through rental of raised beds and growing areas."

Group chairman, Cllr Ken Moss, said, "Jeff has been the driving force behind this and has secured over £23,000 of funding by simply applying to every grant pot he can find. The final pieces of the jigsaw are coming together and work is expected to start within the next month or so."

Hyndburn Borough Council has donated 40 disused flower planters to the group and has agreed to maintain the trees around the perimeter as they are too large for a small community group. The group is currently made up of representatives from schools and community organisations, plus interested residents.

A Facebook page has been set up and can be viewed here:
