A query has been raised by a resident at Eachill Gardens regarding security tags on the fire doors and concerns that this would impede exit in the case of an emergency.
Sandra Freza, warden of the complex, said, "Some residents have been using the fire doors as exits but they cannot be locked from the outside which means that the building is then left unsecured. Fire extinguisher tags have been placed around the fire exits to deter people from doing this and special approved glass locks will now be fitted."
Cllr Ken Moss said, "I have spoken to Sandra and am happy with the safety measures she has put in place. The security tags being used at present are very easily broken and wouldn't stop anyone from escaping in the event of a fire. Fire doors should only be used in an emergency and it is her job to see that all the residents are kept safe, I have absolutely no concerns about the security procedures in place at Eachill Gardens."
