The annual Green Flag Award polls are now open and it is time to vote for your favourite park.
Cutwood Park in Rishton is the youngest of Hyndburn's Parks. The land occupied by Cutwood Park was acquired from the Dunkenhalgh Estate and conveyed to the Urban district of Rishton for use as a public park as a gift to the local people in memory of Captain Charles Bernard Petre(1870-1949) by his son Captain Robert Petre and the Trustees of the Dunkenhalgh Estate in 1953. Cutwood park is an urban park which serves the local and winder community of Rishton, a district of Hyndburn. It is used for children's play, formal and informal recreation and is unique in that unlike other parks in Hyndburn it borders Rishton reservoir home to the East Lancashire Yacht Club.
The park has won the Green Flag Award for several years and 7 of the 11 major parks in Hyndburn are now accredited which is a large number for such a small borough. The award is the industry standard for excellence and also helps towards funding bids for those areas.
