The site of the former Bridgefield Mill on Spring Street is currently the subject of ongoing discussions regarding the Canal Masterplan headed by Cllr Clare Cleary. Regular meetings are taking place in order to improve Spring Street in particular, the ultimate intention being to have a clear objective for future development and all legal obstacles cleared by June 2015.
At a meeting on 11th November 2014, all four Rishton representatives voted in favour of serving an enforcement notice on the owners of the site to clear it of all waste materials and install earth bunding around the site to prevent further fly tipping or traveller encampments.
The former owners of the site, Dasim Developments Ltd, were officially wound up by the High Court on 16th June 2014 and so the site is now in the hands of official receivers. A Section 80 Environmental Protection Act Notice dated 20th November has now been served on the administrators giving 21 days to comply.
