CHRISTMAS TREE COVERED BY CCTV

The Christmas tree at Rishton Library will be replaced this week following a series of vandal attacks which have seen several branches ripped off. The tree will be in place and dressed with lights ahead of the switch on event on Friday 5th December at 6.30pm.

Police have been examining CCTV footage and have received information from residents who have provided several names to the authorities. Officers and Councillors have spoken to the families concerned and have received support from the relatives in stopping this behaviour.

Cllr Harry Grayson said, "Enough is enough now. The CCTV is watching the area which includes the Christmas tree and the three Rishton Councillors all agree with the principle that anyone who is caught vandalising the tree should pay for the cost of a new one. We don't have the money to keep replacing our trees just because there is a minority element in Rishton who think it is fun to destroy our decorations."
