An online appeal has been made by a group of Rishton residents to help clear some overgrown steps leading to a house on Parker Street. Mr Allan Presho, who lost his wife Iris last year, uses the steps every day to tend his allotment but they have become overgrown and are now presenting a hazard.
Cllr Ken Moss said, "Allan is very well respected in Rishton and I have been approached by some local women who want to help him out. I went to ask him if it was alright to clear his back steps for him and he was delighted by the gesture. The steps are a little steep and I will contact the owners to see if we can get them modified but in the first place we can cut back the overgrowth."
Rishton resident Sarah Wade said, "I can arrange a strimmer which will get through most things then we can do a tip run or maybe we could arrange for the Council to collect. I'm not sure what we can do about the 12" steps the old gentleman struggles with but clearing overgrown stuff is a good start."
Fellow resident Jodi Roper added, "I'm more than happy to help out! That's what online groups should be all about, too much ranting about how bad things are in Rishton and not enough mucking in and being useful."
The group will be clearing the steps at 6.00pm on Tuesday 7th October and anyone who wishes to help is welcome.
