SPRING STREET IS PRIORITY AREA

Rishton Councillor and Cabinet member for Housing, Clare Cleary, has stated that her top priority as portfolio holder is Spring Street.

Cllr Cleary said, "There are too many empty and dilapidated houses along Spring Street, despite years of work. Now that I have been given the reins I have made it my priority to get it sorted out."

She added, "The area has been run down by social landlords who have put in tenants who don't care about Rishton. I have now instructed Council officers to target rogue landlords and get houses which are lowering the tone back into good repair. It isn't fair on people who look after their properties to be surrounded by houses which are being left to rot."

Several enforcement orders are now in place along Spring Street and this is has led to remedial works being started by landlords.
