Norden High School has become very well-utilised in recent years following the construction of the Denise Parkinson Sports Hall and there are many activities both during and after school hours. The knock-on effect of this has been an overall increase in the number of cars parked along Stourton Street, Cliff Street and Bridge Street at certain times of the day.
Following complaints from local residents, Cllr Ken Moss held a meeting with Headmaster Tim Mitchell regarding the situation and discussions were very productive. Mr Mitchell is now working with Rishton Area Council to alleviate the situation and has allocated funding for the creation of up to 20 new parking bays on school grounds. Costings are being finalised and work is expected to start in the near future.
Discussions are also taking place with local Councillors with the aim to create a completely new parking area within the school grounds. Funding is likely to be an issue but the scheme is now being actively pursued and updates will be provided when more information is known.
