The local police have issued a renewed appeal for residents to make use of the non-emergency number which runs alongside the emergency number 999. 101 was set up around two years ago in order for reporting crimes and other incidents and has proven very effective. The number puts callers through to a Lancashire Constabulary call centre which logs the crime and then generates a report for the relevant local officers.
Cllr Ken Moss said, "The system works very well but there is still the feeling from quite a few people that there is no point reporting crimes because the police aren't perceived as doing anything. I would like to reassure residents that this is certainly not true and the more people who report a crime using 101 the more likely it is that crimes will be solved more quickly."
