CHRISTMAS TREE VANDALISM REPAIRED

The newly-planted Christmas tree at Parker Street corner was vandalised within hours of having the lights switched on by Mayor of Hyndburn, Cllr Judith Addison, on 29th November. The button was pressed just before 7.00pm on Friday night but by 10.00pm the lights had been pulled off the tree and the wires severed.

The coloured lights were badly damaged and Cllr Harry Grayson requested that a more sturdy set were installed as soon as possible and this has now been done, with a more modest blue set highlighting the tree. Photos taken by HBC staff show the extent of the damage and what they found when they made a site inspection.




The new living trees at Parker Street and outside The Cabin Surgery have been planted in order to reduce costs and will save £740 in 2013 alone. The Parker Street tree has been planted in a patch of grassed area which is covering the old foundations of a row of houses which were demolished many years ago and the bricks and masonry which were dug out by HBC staff can be seen below.
