REGENERATION AND HOUSING PANEL - 17th SEPTEMBER 2013

Cllrs Ken Moss and Harry Grayson attended a meeting with HBC officers and Councillors on 17th September 2013 regarding housing and regeneration in Hyndburn. The meeting covered a wide range of discussions from ideas to improve Accrington town centre to selective landlord licensing but the issue of empty houses was raised.

This particular problem is being aggressively tackled by HBC and 4 long-term empty properties have now been brought back into use in Rishton in 2013 on Walmsley Avenue, Ullswater Close, Sands Road and Shuttleworth Street. There have also been 2 prosecutions in the village since June this year for non-compliance with enforcement orders. Four new properties have been reported to HBC for being in an unfit condition since June this year and ten cases are still ongoing in Rishton with regard to environmental improvement.

Two properties on Spring Street and Shuttleworth Street have been also been renovated following Council intervention, with all waste removed, windows reglazed and new doors fitted to make the properties secure.
