Thanks are due to the local clergy from all denominations for well-organised services both at St Charles' Church and the Cenotaph which included a performance from the local schools and organisations such as the Brownies and Scouts.
The Rishton branch of the Royal British Legion gave much pomp and circumstance to the occasion as always and credit is due for their involvement in making the day such a success. The first public performance from the newly-formed Rishton Pipe Band was heard at 6.00pm in the Conservative Club and fundraising continues to complete the lineup for future events.
A final word of praise must go to Liam Rutherford, dressed in a genuine World War I soldier's outfit for the day. The outfit was the source of many comments but was uncomfortable and the gun was very heavy, a reminder of just what the British soldiers went through all those years ago.
