Three applications relevant to Rishton were presented before the Planning Committee (on which Cllr Ken Moss sits) at Hyndburn Borough Council on 12th October, the most debated being the plans for Westwood Garage on Harwood Road. The application was made on behalf of Co-op who wish to move from their High Street location to the old Bentley garage and Cllr Clare Cleary spoke against it on behalf of the residents. A presentation against the move was also made by local resident Geoff Scales. The application was rejected on grounds of inadequate parking facilities and proximity to a busy junction.
The next Rishton application was for an extension to the outline planning on the site of the demolished Spring Street derelicts and the mill grounds behind. No firm plans have been put in place as to what will eventually be built there but this application was approved in the interests of improving the area.
The final Rishton application concerned a fence which has been erected on Barnmeadow Crescent. Planning permission for this was applied for after it had been constructed (retrospective planning permission) but was rejected.
