Following complaints from local residents about litter, the Rishton councillors have given instructions for a new bin to be installed outside the corner shop on Burton Street. A previous bin was vandalised and rolled along the road into a car although the replacement will be bolted down to prevent this happening in future. The proprietor of VS Minimarket is pleased at the news as he said that littering is frequently attributed to his store. A similar exercise carried out by the corner shop on Spring Street has proved successful.
A lamp-mounted bin on Talbot Street is also being relocated following a complaint about the smells it causes during warmer weather. The bin is currently right outside the front door of a resident and odours are drifting into a family home.
