RISHTON BOYS BRIGADE

The 1st Rishton Boys Brigade company is still going strong and places are available to new members. The group meets at Rishton Methodist Church every week and subs are £2.50 which covers insurance and equipment for activities.

Co-founder and former captain of 25 years, Geoff Smale, has been with the Brigade since 1955 and the Rishton group celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2013. Geoff handed over captaincy to Robert Brankin two years ago but still remains involved.

Cllr Ken Moss was invited as guest of honour to their annual Presentation Night earlier this year, where parents can come along and see what the lads have been doing during the year, such as physical activities and arts and crafts.

Ken said, "It was great to see lads of different ages all taking part in activities together, plus we even had members giving us a brass band performance which was really quite something. I was presented with a beautiful engraved glass tankard on the night which I would like to thank the Brigade for, it was a really nice gift."
