ARMED FORCES FLAG RAISING 2014

Cllrs Clare Cleary and Ken Moss were present on Monday 23rd June 2014 for the annual raising of the Armed Forces Day flag at Accrington Town Hall.

The ceremony was presided over by members of the Royal British Legion and the Mayor of Hyndburn, Cllr Munsif Dad.

Armed Forces Day (formerly Veterans' Day) in the United Kingdom is an annual event celebrated in late June to commemorate the service of men and women in the British Armed Forces. Veterans' Day was first observed in 2006.Although an official event, it is not a public holiday in the UK. The name was changed to Armed Forces Day in 2009. The five Armed Forces Days so far have been held on the last Saturday of June.

The Hyndburn Armed Forces Day rotates between the townships and this year will take place in Oswaldtwistle on Saturday 28th June at 10.30am.
