The long-running debate regarding the conifers at the end of Station Close has now been brought to an end after the majority of residents affected voted in favour of their removal. Lengthy discussions have been held by Harry Grayson and Ken Moss with residents and council officers but the matter was brought to a head over the issue of insurance liability.
Due to the history of the plot and type of trees planted by a roadside this situation is unique in Rishton and would not have otherwise involved the village council but the decision has been taken in order to draw a line under a problem which has been the subject of much debate over the past 15 years.
Cllr Moss has requested a final delay until August so that the local wild birds can finish their nesting season but from the point of view of Rishton Area Council the matter is now closed and the trees will be cut down this summer.
