Cllrs Harry Grayson and Ken Moss recently attended a Rishton Area Council progress meeting and a proposal from resident Clare Cleary was brought to the table regarding the post box situation at James Street.
At a public meeting in November, Clare suggested that a post box could be purchased from Royal Mail using the money which had been allocated to a bus shelter project on Hermitage Street that is now not proceeding. However, the councillors have been advised that whilst it is possible to use the village funds in this way there is no requirement for Royal Mail to actually collect from the box and it is likely to cause problems for the local postmen if they are asked to make collections themselves.
The decision will be discussed in public at the next Rishton Area Council meeting on 17th March at 7.00pm although initial views would indicate that it will not be voted as a good use of village money given the current behaviour of Royal Mail towards residents.
