LANCASHIRE TELEGRAPH - 13th SEPTEMBER 2010

An article has been published in the Lancashire Telegraph regarding what could be done with the infamous row of derelicts at the bottom of Spring Street.  Regrettably, negotiations with the owners of the row are still ongoing with Hyndburn Borough Council and so Cllrs Harry Grayson and Ken Moss are in the process of drawing up an idea to put to the Chief Executive to get it resolved sooner rather than later.

At present, the most likely outcome is demolition but this would not leave the site clear of rubble and would run the risk of attracting travellers.  A similar exercise has been carried out in Blackburn on Esther Street opposite Tesco and has resulted in a desolate wasteland which is now overgrown with weeds.

Ken and Harry are exploring the possibility of council ownership with a view to exclusively helping Rishton people to get onto the property ladder.  A proposal will be put to the Chief Executive of the Council within the next few weeks although legal wranglings are unfortunately likely to go on for several months.
